Role

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Customs Specialist to join our logistics team. In this role, you will manage and oversee customs procedures to ensure the smooth and compliant import and export of goods. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating international trade regulations, ensuring timely delivery, and minimizing costs associated with customs duties and taxes.

Responsibilities

• Manage all customs documentation and processes for import and export activities.
• Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs laws, and company policies.
• Prepare and submit necessary documentation for customs clearance, including invoices, bills of lading, and packing lists.
• Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other logistics partners to facilitate the movement of goods.
• Monitor and track shipments to ensure timely delivery and address any customs-related issues or delays.
• Analyze and classify goods according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and other relevant classification systems.
• Calculate and manage duties, taxes, and other customs-related costs.
• Stay updated with changes in customs regulations, trade agreements, and tariff schedules.
• Provide guidance and support to internal teams on customs procedures and compliance requirements.
• Conduct audits of customs documentation and processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Customs Specialist or in a similar customs-related role.
• Advanced proficiency in English (written and spoken).
• Strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs laws, and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in customs software and tools, such as SAP GTS, Descartes, or other relevant systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
• Experience with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification and calculation of duties and taxes.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain customs procedures to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in customs or international trade (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Certified Export Specialist (CES)).
• Experience in the electric mobility or automotive industry.
• Knowledge of free trade agreements and preferential trade programs.
• Familiarity with import/export documentation and procedures for specific regions or countries.
• Experience with international shipping and logistics.
